The East River, so called because it is not a river and lies east of Manhattan, deserves its name because Manhattan is the center of the universe. Never mind that it is west of Long Island, that doesn’t count. Now, the Sea of Japan certainly needs renaming, since it is a sea and is largely closed off by Japan. Korea wants us to rename it the East Sea, but that won’t do. How will we know that it is not Gibraltar talking about the Mediterranean?
