When I was coming up, the household had fancy china dinner plates for special occasions and cheap plates for everyday use. Today, I still have fine dishes and regular dishes; the difference is that I use the nice dishes first, and turn to the inferior ones only at need. Maybe it’s time to extend that approach to our governance?
