When you are as powerful as humanity, you become an agent of evolution. The spring lockdowns put our visiting virus under stronger selective pressure to become more infectious. When rules were relaxed and motivation relaxed on its own, the more infectious strain crept into countries that formerly coped well, like New Zealand and Vietnam. Evolution is a little like journalism; one of its missions is to afflict the comfortable.
