For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. We don't take it seriously enough. Imagine that we could tap the zero point energy, the energy of the vacuum. What would we use it for? Travel between stars takes the most energy. By removing energy from the vacuum, we would weaken and lighten it, accelerating the expansion of the universe--and making travel longer. Thank you, thank you, I have just solved cosmology and proved that we are doomed.
