3 November 2023 - Hamas

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

In Modern Standard Arabic, "Hamas" is stressed on the first syllable. In Hebrew, on the last syllable. If you speak a language with word stress, then pronouncing the acronym forces you to pick a side. This did not deter the UN General Assembly from passing a resolution that even-handedly asks everyone to play nice and stop hurting civilians. What would stop them? It's the perfect political move, because neither side wants to.
