Demis Hassabis mentioned Starcraft

In an interview while AlphaGo’s go match against Lee Sedol was underway, Starcraft came up as a potential future project: DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis on how AI will shape the future. DeepMind is of course the Google subsidiary that created AlphaGo.

The key question and answer:

Is beating StarCraft something that you would personally be interested in?
Maybe. We’re only interested in things to the extent that they are on the main track of our research program.

I read that answer as “probably not,” but can you imagine the effect?
