MICROB - robotic soccer

MICROB is a joint project involving investigators from LAFORIA (Laboratoire formes et intelligence artificielle) and Laboratoire de Robotique de Paris (Paris Robotics Laboratory) in France. It is headed by Alexis Drogoul <drogoul@laforia.ibp.fr> and Dominique Duhaut <ddu@robot.uvsq.fr>.

MICROB stands for "Modélisation de l'Intelligence Collective de ROBots", which means robot collective intelligence modeling. The project investigates collective intelligence as an emergent property of a self-organizing system--in particular, the collective behavior of a team of soccer robots.

The project's work is at an early stage. They have written a simulator which supports various robot behaviors, and tried some simulation experiments. They are readying real robots in the form of commercial radio-controlled toy cars. A computer-controlled team can compete against a team of human-controlled robots.
