Europe has an excellent, if somewhat elitist, university system. America’s
system is more egalitarian, but inferior in quality—over half of high school
graduates go to college, so the students on average are not as capable.
Japan’s is worse yet. After the tough but pointless entrance exam, students
in most disciplines do little work before graduation.
The trend is clear. Economic growth rate is inversely proportional to the
quality of higher education.
