To become an astronaut, it’s not good enough to be good enough. You have to be the best. Most astronauts have PhD’s, not because you need a PhD to fly but so that NASA can cut down their huge pool of candidates.

Supreme Court nominees come in one at a time, so they’re only required to be good enough. Fortunately, it’s not as important a job; Supreme Court justices don’t have to appear on television as often as astronauts.
