11 May 2000 - burning bourbon

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

A seven-story Wild Turkey bourbon warehouse burned Tuesday in Kentucky. Flaming bourbon streamed into the Kentucky River near the water supply intake for the city of Lawrenceburg. Then an event occurred which is difficult to understand: The city closed its water intake.

Fire and alcohol are two of humanity’s oldest accomplishments, and the lust to party is primordial. What we have here is a sign of modern technology’s threat to obliterate ancient traditions. I’m sure the water intake is computer-controlled.
