4 September 2000 - extended lifespan 2

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Life extension in the comic books was easier. The evil Dr. Kartoffel’s diabolical plan to zap Earth with a Telomere Shortening Ray was foiled by the special powers of Superoxide Dismutase, and everybody lived happily ever after, until the next issue. It didn’t have to make sense.

In reality, longevity research is more like a long siege of Nature’s castle, where most of the assaults and repulses are too technical to make out. Superoxide what? All we know for sure is that Nature is inside there somewhere, ranting “Foolish mortals! For this you will suffer!”
