There Is Nothing New Under The Literary Sun

Terence, 190-159BC, a playwright who stole liberally from Menander, may have been the first to say that everything has already been said. Today many believe differently. Linguists assure us that virtually nothing has been said, a language feature that they optimistically dub “productivity”. Linguists apparently do not realize that little of Menander’s extensive work survives.
