On the one hand, the first explanations of a complex event are always wrong. On the other, we can’t afford to wait for the history books. If you are in charge of reassuring the public, follow these rules:

1. Everything will be OK.
2. It’s somebody else’s fault.
3. You are not Dave Barry. Make up all details.
