14 December 2011 - hyperactive passivity

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Under the Most Precisely Controlled Conditions

Prescribed by law or prescribed by a physician? Doesn’t matter, some will listen and some won’t. In the 20th century it finally penetrated that ideas are uncertain and relative, and there was a somewhat Kuhnian but nonscientific revolution in our misunderstanding of many fields. Any decade now, I estimate, the other scale will drop and the ponderous zeitgeist will see that not only can we know nothing, as a species we can’t take action. Postmodernism will fall at last, overprinted by a philosophy of hyperactive passivity.

The subtitle is the start of an old science joke whose punchline is “the organism will do as it damn well pleases.”

Postmodernism was long since declared dead, but if so where is the body?

take oh take this clue away
