Sufficiently Advanced Technology

In crossing a field, suppose you happened to kick a stone. If you are a geologist, you could examine it to see how it was made. But if you kicked a smartphone, a small featureless rectangle of plastic and glass, you might say “Huh, a little brick. Who polished that up?” This is proof that we still have a lot to learn about high technology. As long as we can recognize machinery, we aren’t finished.
