The American military needs a bureaucratically-sound curse for use when the other side defends itself, and settled on Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD). America doesn’t do any such foul thing itself; the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines all proudly claim the mission of accessing that area regardless. Anyway, what this all means is that in the interests of the never-ending struggle against hypocrisy in government, we need to change some names. The Defense Department must become the Offence Department, and Homeland Security should be the Department of A2/AD.
