It's not that power corrupts. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett sailed into old age on an even keel. It's that genius and madness are allies and coordinate their policies. There was no way to save Howard Hughes, but maybe there is hope for Elon Musk. He famously plunges his head into the nerdiest waters. He needs somebody to ask "Really? What's the data on that?" and not be afraid to follow up with "And for your next trick, tell me which of those are raving randos and which are Russian bots."
