Trump wants battleships because they sound strong. Unfortunately, in the air age they are expensive and weak. Fortunately, the navy has reacted soundly: They proposed impressive weapons that don't exist yet, which distracts Trump, promotes useful research, and delays the expensive part until he's long gone. Unfortunately, when the government has to trick itself into common sense, it's broken.
