a few brief notes

1. SAIL seems to be down. The last game result is 24 April. I don’t see a note on the web page, so that’s all I know.

2. New protoss bot skyFORKnet says “it’s mostly skynet” by Andrew Smith. I’ve only watched a few games, and so far I don’t notice any differences from Skynet. Anybody know? Skynet is under a GPL license, so source code should be available somewhere (or else the author is violating the license). Anybody know this either?

3. I had to look up the name “toothpick cactus” to find out what kind of cactus it was. What’s next? Octopus Cactus? Giant Chin Cactus?

1. From Discord, krasi0 says his machine where the games for SAIL is running is crashing when the CPU is under heavy load.

2. From Discord, tscmoo wrote, that he wanted to improve Skynet.

3. I suspect Toothpick Cactus is the terran from the same author as the zerg Pineapple Cactus... but I am not sure.

Jay Scott on :

Toothpick Cactus claims to be a reimplementation of Pineapple Cactus. It would be surprising if the author were different.

Dan on :

Yep, Toothpick and Pineapple have the same author, kehmry on Twitch. He's been working on Toothpick for a few months now. It's playing quite nicely!

For the source code of Skynet you can just check the AIIDE tournament page. It publishes the source code of all bots that compete. For Skynet you have to go back to 2015, though. I guess that they do not upload the source code for bots that don't change between years.

Simon Prins on :

I misunderstood, thought you meant Skynet itself. Tscmoos fork of Skynet is here: https://github.com/tscmoo/skynet although there are not so many changes. I don't know if this is completely up to date.

Jay Scott on :

Thanks! At first glance it looks like all technical updates, no play changes so far.

krasi0 on :

I don't think those commits include the latest changes that tscmoo has made to SkyForkNet

Jay Scott on :

I am pretty sure they don’t. My memory says that when I first looked into the repo, it had commits from 2018, and today it does not. I think the repo was rolled back.
