comments turned back on

Attempted spam comments fell to a more normal level today, less than 200 (sad that I can call that normal). Commenting is restored.

I wonder why don't you opt-in for a third party commenting platform like Disqus, Facebook or at least add reCaptcha as a automated posts blocker?

Jay Scott on :

To let a third party store my data seems crazy to me. I don’t understand why people accept that in exchange for, as Ben Franklin might say, a little temporary convenience. Third party spam filters are not good enough; I used Akismet for a long time. Better captchas could be an improvement, but there is a usability tradeoff. I am sometimes tempted to vote on SSCAIT matches, but don’t because the captchas are too irritating. I feel that good options are lacking. :-/

If you login with your (dummy) Google account, reCaptcha should be as trivial as a single click and no guessing games.
Otherwise fighting spam on your own nowadays is not a fair battle... :(

I'm logged in and I still have to complete a (sometimes multi-framed) captcha on the voting page.

Especially with Elo coming from BASIL, maybe it's time to take the voting captcha back off?

There was the other issue where someone seems to have automated mass voting for potato bots. But let's disable it for a while and see.
