SSCAIT and BGH

The annual 1 April Big Game Hunters caper on SSCAIT was cut short this year, seemingly due to technical difficulties. An unusual number of games failed to start, and the stream was not much fun to watch. Of course when bots are playing on a surprise map they may have trouble, but in this case bots that I know are OK on the map also fell over, including Steamhammer once and other bots in the UAlbertaBot family a number of times. It looks as though the difficulties were on the server side.

I imagine that the map pool automatically switched to BGH at midnight server time, when it became April Fools day. The last game played on BGH was legacy versus Andrej Kurdiumov at 11:32:23; the next game at 11:39:32 was back to the normal map pool. The admins must have intervened.

It’s unfortunate. I enjoy seeing something different one day a year. In any case, good job SSCAIT for at least keeping things working.

Joseph Huang on :

Last year issue with no BWTA cache file.

This failed experiment should be a good argument against any "new map pool on SSCAIT" proponents :)
BGH is not even a hard map to analyze.

BWTA just sucks... it requires cache files. But SSCAIT should at least provide the cache files if they intend to use that map. Or just disable that bad joke.
