21 September 2001 - the first casualty

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Truth is the first to fall in war. This time, the attacking soldiers are front-line journalists. They trained for years to verify their sources, and now they’ve been ordered to report everything that moves. The battle cry: “The public doesn’t want facts, they want news. And we can make that up.”

clue:

“Truth is the first casualty of war.” — Arthur Ponsonby, 1928
“The first casualty when war comes is truth.” — Hiram Johnson, 1917

give me a clue so sweet and true
