5 November 2005 - Apple vs Sony

Sony: Curses, foiled again! Now how will I conquer
the world?
Apple: [mutters] Stupid media company.
Sony: What did you say?
Apple: I said, er, that your digital rights management
strategy allows some room for improvement. You need to work with
the computer makers, not against them.
Sony: We agreed to drop the stealth feature of the
rootkit—I mean, the DRM software. That might be enough to
forestall lawsuits. What more could we possibly want?
Apple: There’s nothing wrong with non-tranparency.
What are license agreements for, after all? What you need
is deeper integration.
Sony: Ah, nobody calls it a rootkit if it comes already
built into the operating system.
Apple: Exactly. So if you’ll just sign this license
agreement....
Sony: Yeah, right. Stupid hardware company.
Apple: Curses, foiled again!
