Hmm... signs of massive internal spying in the U.S. have been around for years, so why did details come out now in particular? I’m taking bets on whether China engineered the timing. It was just before Xi Jinping’s big U.S. visit and the American campaign against China’s cyber-spying has been ramping up. What better than to show that the U.S. is already doing exactly what authoritarian China aspires to?
