What comes first, making machines which are smarter than people, or making people smarter than people? That is, do we try to work around the bugs in our evolved wetware, no longer suitable for the society we have constructed, or do we fix the bugs? A bit of uploading or cyborging won’t be enough, economics will insist on correcting those inefficient cognitive biases, the ones that cause things like discrimination and irrational fear of vaccines. What path scares you the least?
