So it looks set, the race will be between the establishment weasel and the populist pig who’s doing his best to look too fat to make progress. But why is populism popular? Or to say it it a more modern way, why does the ingroup want to keep the outgroup out? But that makes it sound easy; it’s about restoring our once-great self-image, that is to say, it’s wistful thinking.
