10 September 2017 - natural calamity

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

I have lived by the coast and never fled a tsunami. I have lived in a seismic zone and felt only tiny earthquakes. I have lived on the plains and sheltered unnecessarily from tornadoes over the horizon. I have been on the fringes of hurricanes and never known the high winds. Now I live, purely by coincidence, in a safe region where the danger of natural calamity is remote. It’s not something people usually think about. Why should they? There’s no chance to build experience. You lose your life at most once.
