Equifax’s apology says “We didn’t live up to expectations.” I guess they mean their own expectations; by the Dunning-Kruger effect, they believed they were protecting their data. My personal expectation is that they did better than the other two big credit agencies, which haven’t yet discovered that they have been hacked.
