2 June 2020 - noisy wok

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Hong Kong

Stir-crazy in the prison of someone else’s days,
Pare back and winter by your vegetable love
Through frosts of discontent, till you can finally be
Stir-fried in the noisy wok of freedom.

clue:

Some aspects of culture are durable and will last if need be through centuries of change and repression.

“In the prison of his days...” — W.H. Auden

“Love in the frost is pared and wintered by.” — Dylan Thomas

“Now is the winter of our discontent/Made glorious summer...” — Shakespeare

And the pun that I must point out if anyone is to notice: “There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere.” — Nelson Mandela

give me a clue so sweet and true
