28 October 2020 - steel air

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Did you read about the hot planet with vapor of iron, vanadium, chromium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, and nickel in its atmosphere? A world where you make steel not with a furnace, but with a fridge: If everything is just right, the sodium and calcium will remove each other from the hot liquid before it solidifies and the remaining air will freeze to high-grade steel. A convenient place to live, if only you could build a fridge that didn’t evaporate.
