“Time-tested” means you’ve tried it a lot, and you only try something a lot if you think it’s a good idea. The cooking fire is time-tested, and still useful for those without a microwave or with a marshmallow. Maintaining a standing army is time-tested because we don’t have a better idea. Yelling at your kids is time-tested, but stupid. There, now you understand the term “best practices.”
