Committees chose the names “COVID-19” for the disease and “SARS-CoV-2” for the virus, for the convenience of stuffy science writing (“look how smart we are!”) and the inconvenience of all else. The names make vital safety information look technical, repelling the public, who may hear “follow the science” but don’t believe they can. These points were visible when the names were chosen. One point remains to clarify: Negligent homicide, or cold-blooded murder?
