13 May 1998 - precision weapons

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

In World War II, heavy bombers were often accurate enough to hit the right city. Today, with precision bombing, attacking aircraft can usually hit the right city block. Someday we’ll be good enough to target only the key elements of the enemy organization, reducing collateral damage to zero.

It’s the life goal of Saddam Hussein, technology driver extraordinaire.

clue:

“Collateral damage” is military PR-speak for “things that maybe we’d rather not have blown to bits, but oh well, that’s war.”

take oh take this clue away
