It’s easy to joke about lawyers, but they play a crucial role in society. They’re the centerpiece of the system that protects us from the morally deficient. Trouble arises only when lawyers come into contact with normal citizens, and we avoid that by granting lawyers wealth and power so that they mingle only with the upper classes. Then their moral deficiencies go unnoticed and the rest of us are safe.
