22 June 2001 - on the level

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

A dramatic sky may send painters into a frenzy, but others don’t notice. Earthquakes strike without warning, but cities on fault lines still grow fast. People don’t look up or down; we react to what’s on the level and on hand. And why not? It’s worked great so far.

Humans are like most of the galaxies in the universe: we have low surface brightness, but we outweigh everything else.
