4 August 2008 - official substitute

If pressure is the official substitute for evidence and
acquiescence is the official substitute for truth, then
what’s the official substitute for morality?
clue:
Inspired by the news about Bruce Ivins, the anthrax researcher
who killed himself while under FBI suspicion. The earlier suspect
Steven Hatfill won a $5.8 million settlement after suing for an
FBI smear campaign against him, which shows how far the FBI goes.
Now Ivins is also the subject of a media campaign that also smells
of a smear—whether the claims against him are true cannot be judged
by the public evidence, so a smear must be the reason to leak
information. Does anybody believe it’s an unintentional leak?
give me a clue so sweet and true
