4 August 2008 - official substitute

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

If pressure is the official substitute for evidence and acquiescence is the official substitute for truth, then what’s the official substitute for morality?

Inspired by the news about Bruce Ivins, the anthrax researcher who killed himself while under FBI suspicion. The earlier suspect Steven Hatfill won a $5.8 million settlement after suing for an FBI smear campaign against him, which shows how far the FBI goes. Now Ivins is also the subject of a media campaign that also smells of a smear—whether the claims against him are true cannot be judged by the public evidence, so a smear must be the reason to leak information. Does anybody believe it’s an unintentional leak?

give me a clue so sweet and true
