Now that our constant companion national security has taken on the meaning of the obsolete word “fear”, maybe we can regain the original word “fere”.

clue:

“Fere” means companion or comrade, with generally positive connotations. I learned the word from the Ezra Pound poem “Ballad of the Goodly Fere” about Jesus.
