Why do democracies try to support and stabilize dictatorships? Well, influence with the winners is the only influence there is, and a dictator in power is winning so far, right? Power struggles and revolutions get so confusing, because you can’t tell who to pay off to keep the refugees out, or get that pipeline built, or whatever you happen to want this election cycle. Wait... isn’t that the answer right there? Stability begins at home—it’s time to drop those elections!
