Now don’t go all pessimistic. The little nuclear trouble bubble in Japan says that humanity is making progress on safety. The Three Mile Island accident and the Chernobyl disaster hit from blue sky because they were caused by crummy design and busted organizations. But even the forty-year-old reactors of Tokyo Electric Power Company, a gang famous for cover-ups, are watched over closely enough that they only break when you bash them.
