Analysis of Intuition

Nobody expects simple harmonic motion from the Arab Spring; let the planet turn as it may, we know that revolutions are neither simple nor harmonious. As they say, we know what we don’t know. But compare: Let it coil as it may, an adder is linear and we can cope with it. But sometimes the economy is bitten by a poisonous multiplier and gets run down, and everyone is confused because we thought we knew. Why is it that sometimes we think only in straight lines?

clue:

“Run down” in the sense of a bank run... or a flag... or Monty Python’s parrot.
