Military acronyms seem obscure, but they can be decoded. Consider JDAM, the Joint Direct Attack Munition. “Joint” means for use by more than one military service, a coded message to the politicians, “shared is cheap!” “Direct Attack Munition” means bomb. Actually JDAM is not a bomb, it’s a bomb guidance kit, so the coded message here is “hey this is not some spare part to skimp on, we need this to blow stuff up.” The final overall translation of JDAM is “we want it bad.”
