5 June 2012 - journalism reform

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

The need for journalism is up. The popularity of newspapers is down. We stand in need of systemic reform, and who better to reform a broken system than your dear friend the King of the World? The news gathering part of the system works adequately, but in the Internet age there’s no need to keep a printing press near your customers to get them the latest, so news distribution should be more centralized. Rupert Murdoch had a good idea, but couldn’t quite build his empire large enough to take over the world. Google News almost has the right idea, but allows the puny newspapers to live. My plan is a central news market, efficient, open and transparent just like a stock market. By funneling money to those who create value, it will soon ruthlessly control all reporting, and who’ll notice if the invisible hand looks a little like mine?
