Look at a fir tree with its leaves like iron filings lined up on a magnet and ask yourself: Does this organism love photosynthesis? Isn’t it only getting by until it figures out what it really wants to do? Photosynthesis is the basis of life, and most biological processes are beautifully optimized, but plants are less efficient than an ordinary solar cell. Without question the market incentives are severely distorted, and it’s time for governments to recognize that. Deregulate plant evolution now!
