It Worked

Diogenes, or as we say in English Dodgy-Knees, was lying when he said he was looking for an honest man. You realized that, right? He was licking his reputation into shape so that it would be as fearsome as a bear.

clue:

“To lick into shape” comes from a Roman idea that bear cubs were born formless and their parents had to lick them into bear shape, a truly beautiful confusion. That was later than Diogenes the Cynic, so he surely never heard of it.
