If it stands on a boundary, as the human mind stands on the boundary between its left and right hemispheres, it is “liminal”. It’s a word, after all, and every word has a meaning, except “unambiguous”. But then what does “subliminal” mean? Well, between the hemispheres is the corpus collosum, and below that is the brain stem, so “subliminal” means something like primitive and reptilian.
