Confusion is the greatest imaginable force for progress. With confusion, you can prevent scurvy on long sea voyages: All you have to do is mix up ascorbic acid with acetic acid. Think how much trouble it would save to carry vinegar instead of limes! And once you confuse acetic with ascetic, you don’t need anything at all.
