One Time For All

Time zones are dumb, and getting rid of them would save wasted effort and increase economic growth. But there is a strong reason that we cannot. Imagine it: You would never again have to figure out time differences. Businesses and localities would set their schedules free of any cultural standard opening time, spreading out rush hour traffic. Clock makers would simplify their products. Tens of thousands of software engineers would cross off “fix the damn time calculation again” from their to-do lists, and a thousand timekeeping experts would turn their attention to matters that genuinely require expertise. That is to say, other people would benefit more than you, which is unacceptable.
