9 December 2017 - ocean excuses
< yesterday --

Every ocean needs an excuse. “Pacific” means peaceful. The Pacific Ocean’s
excuse is that it gave us the delightful term “the Pacific War.” The
Atlantic Ocean is named after Atlas, because an ocean is the natural way
to hold up the sky, or more directly after the Atlas Mountains, because
why shouldn’t mountains and oceans have the same name? The Arctic Ocean
is no good. It has no excuse.
