Efforts to solve the world's problems fall into several categories. One area is high-impact leading-edge research, which means that fads have taken over and expectations have grown out of bounds. Another is the attack on critical but underappreciated questions, which means nobody else cares. The most important area, and the source of most progress, is the underhyped initiative.
