Why does the villain rant about their hero-proof plan before being defeated? Is it because the writer is weak and doesn't know how to maintain tension without saving the big reveal until the end? Is it because the writer believes the audience is weak and can't appreciate foreshadowing? In the media-savvy modern era, neither should be true. It must be because custom is bigger than insight--the past thinks for you.
